Guest Book

We would love to know who has come to visit our website and what you think. Please feel free to sign our guest book.

NOTES FROM THE COMMANDER

As many of you remember, for many years the post used a key card access system to enter the building. Over the last few years, we have neglected this process and are now re instituting it again. Effective Monday, August 19th, all members will be required to access the building with a new key card. So, as long as you are a member in good standing, please stop by the post and your key will be at the bar.

A $.50 'fine' will be imposed for those that need to be buzzed into the post. All guests will be able to sign in to a guest book three times only before they will be asked to join the post as a member. It will cost $5.00 to replace any lost cards, but all fees and fines will go to support local veterans!

For any members also in Lonnie's football pool, the additional fee you pay him will be reimbursed to you by Rick Mullins, our bar manager.

FYI; on Tuesday, August 27th, the post will hold a long overdue community meeting. We are inviting the neighbors from the immediate area around the post to stop in for a short informational meeting to address any concerns they might have about our club. Feel free to stop in that night if you are nearby.

I would also like to invite each of you to an afternoon luncheon on September 14th from 4 to 7pm. The luncheon is to recognize our long time post members and touch bases with some of your past VFW comrades.

Our first meeting after the summer will still be held on September 16th at 7pm and our quarterly meeting will be on October 21st at 7pm.

Sincerely,

Kim F. Emerling

Commander,

Witch City Post 1524,

Helping Veterans - The Buddy Poppy

The Buddy Poppy has been distributed by VFW Posts since the World War I. The Poppy symbolizes U.S. service members who were either wounded or died in battle. The poem, "Flanders Field," portrayed the poppies that bloomed among the graves after the WWI battle in France. The poem reminds us that we, the living, must now take up the cause of freedom for which these soldiers died.

The VFW was the first veterans' organization to adopt the poppy and develop a national distribution campaign. For more than 75 years, the VFW's Buddy Poppy program has raised millions of dollars in support of veterans' welfare and the well being of their dependents. From the very beginning, the Buddy Poppy has received the support of the Veterans Administration and the endorsement and cooperation of all presidents since Warren G. Harding.

The VFW Buddy Poppy is assembled in Veterans Hospitals and Veterans Homes by disabled, needy and aging veterans across the country. The Buddy Poppies are distributed by VFW Posts and their Ladies Auxiliaries. The minimal assessment (cost of the Buddy Poppies) to VFW units provides compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies, provides financial assistance in maintaining state and national veterans' rehabilitation and service programs and partially supports the VFW National Home for orphans and widows of our nation's veterans.

Each VFW Post maintains a relief fund in which the net profits from the distribution of Buddy Poppies are placed. These funds are used to help needy veterans and their families. More that 14 million Buddy Poppies are assembled and distributed throughout the U.S each year by the VFW and its Auxiliaries.
